WHAT!!! Are you serious!?!?

Ok, food just officially stopped being fun.

Remember a while back when I was putting milk on blast saying I'm trying to cut it out of my diet?!?!? Well now I need to add a couple more UNFORTUNATE additions to the list of things containing dairy.

For those who know me, ya know that I am a man about two things: My MILO & My cereal. Those are two food products that I could have any time of the day or night...well not anymore.

According to the labels, now that I find myself reading those things more these days, there's a ton of dairy in MILO. And if I woulda stopped and given it some thought it should actually make sense for a chocolate drink to contain milk...but the thought never crossed my mind until now. I must've been in heavenly chocolate stained bliss for too long. For those who don't know...this is MILO. (and you should be ashamed of yourself for not knowing :o)

So just as I started to pick myself up off the floor in the pantry I stumbled across another one of my beloved 'go-to' snacks. Honey Bunches of Oats: by far the best cereal on the shelf hands down. This one is actually funny because the ingredients not only spell out the contents, it has CONTAINS DAIRY in bold print. hahaha...torture!

So as I bid farewell to my beloved Milo for the next 30+ days (maybe more) it's clear to me now that this challenge is more about self discipline & sacrifice than diet.

So I ask again...what else are you giving up for the cause? We all have that one thing that we need to ease off of...what does March look like for you?!?

  1. I'm a cereal girl all the way [with or without milk]; Honey bunches of oats if my favorite too, but Ovaltine beats Milo hands down! LOL

I would suggest you take a look at some Vegan blogs and stop torturing yourself. I had some vegan ice cream and cookies while in LA the past few days and it was good!

I think for the next 30 days I'm going to give up processed sugars.

  2. Lol...I'm no support to my husband. My philosphy is if you cut out the big things (cheese, ice cream, butter, evap and condensced milk, bottled cow's milk) that the residual milk in ALL of the products that we love shouldn't be too bad for you. I mean powdered milk is in everything (so how is it that we are still calcium deficient...what kind of milk is it?). I'll be more supportive...no more sneaking pizza at work!

I'm with McD's. I've got to let go of my addiction to sweets and particularly baked goods. I'm spending more time reading the backs of packages as well and am trying to be more diligent in eliminating things with white sugar and white flour. I'm also cutting back in quantity (chewing gum is my friend in the afternoon...someone might think I'm a recovering smoker!) and am exploring more of the Kashi and Newman's Own lines to
make healthier choices when I have a craving. Next step, snacking on veggies...pray for me!

  3. Actually, my dentist confirmed that gum isn't bad at all if you get sugar-free. Then the biggest health related thing you'd have to watch out for is TMJ (grinding your teeth and messing up your jaw.....not fun, trust).

As for the milk.... I sympathize with you and support your endeavors, but I agree Auntie Oxtail, I don't think the residual dairy is bad. You're not eating cheese and ice cream or flat out drinking milk, so I think you're doing extemely well and should allow yourself the residuals.
